Punch Drunks

Punch Drunks was the second of the three stooges short. The trio made 191 between 1934 and 1959.

In Punch Drunks violinst Larry is working in a restaurant where boxing promoter Moe is trying to calm his fighters. Larry launches into a rendition of “Pop Goes the weasel” and waiter goes beserk knocking out all of Moe’s boxers. Moe calls Curly a born champion and recruits larry to help him, in which he is curly’s manager. Along with Larry “K.O. Stradivarius” is a force of nature, winning all the fights with music and allowing him the right to fight Killer Kilduff for the title of world champ. Stradivarius look like a cinch until Larry’s violin breaks, but he has another plan up his sleave.

Trivia The orginal title was to be called A symphony of punches but was later changed to Punch Drunks. Punch Drunks comes from the experison “Punch drunk” which refears to any fighter who has been hit so many times he is not steady.

Pop goes the weasel gag was later used in the film the three stooges go around the world in a daze.
